- 8 slices from a ciabatta, cut lengthways into flat slabs
- butter, for the outsides
- 200 g cheddar, grated
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- salt and black pepper
Instructions

Butter the outside faces of the ciabatta slabs.

Fill each with grated cheddar, sliced tomato, sliced onion, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Clamp in a toasting grid.

Braai over moderate coals, turning often, until crisp and golden outside and the cheese has melted.
